The Second Death

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; “He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death” (Revelation 2:11).

Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years (Revelation 20:6).

The special promise of deliverance from “the second death” pledged to the faithful who have their part in “the first resurrection” is reminiscent of the “better resurrection” of Hebrews 11:35. This resurrection leads to reigning with Christ for 1000 years while the rest of the dead remain in their graves for the same 1000 years (Revelation 20:5).
