To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation (II Corinthians 5:19).

The truth is most blessed and comforting that “God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself.” This is “glad tidings” or “good news” indeed!

There is no “angry Heaven,” whose wrath must be appeased, and whose favor must be purchased; but a loving Father, who Himself is working to win back the prodigal to the arms that are ever stretched out to receive him, and the heart that has never ceased to love him.

Contrary to what we might fear, the Creator and Father of our souls – the Lord of hosts and King of kings – is good.

The history of organized religion, at least in the Western tradition, is a record of our human resistance to the proclamation that God is love, that His love extends to everyone, and that it is in no way conditioned upon human obedience or human faithfulness. We shall find in the end,

Perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love (I John 4:18).

No Contingencies

Our God never has a headache. He is never worried as we worry when our plans go wrong, for His plans never do. In the working out of the divine plans, there are no contingencies. All history is pregnant with the guiding counsel of the all wise God. His purposes never fail or cave in. They never collapse. No disasters ever attend the undertakings of God. He is sovereign Lord. An experiment is an experiment because of its possible failure. God never fails, hence He makes no experiments. The doctrine of annihilation discounts our conceptions of the divine wisdom.
